We are currently looking for a

MANAGER, FIBRE DEVELOPMENT

to join our Innovations team in Finland or Germany, with possible locations including Raubach, Kreuzau, Espoo, Tampere or Mänttä, in a permanent position.


As Manager, Fibre Development, you will play a key role in optimizing basepaper recipes and quality as well as cost efficiency across Metsä Tissue's European mills. You will lead fibre-related projects, support strategic planning, and contribute to the development of sustainable and innovative tissue products. In this role, you will report to the VP, Innovation.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Driving fibre and base paper development projects across our European mills, with a focus on improving paper recipes, quality, and cost-efficiency
  • Developing fibre properties such as grammage, strength, water absorption, and softness through on-site testing and implementation
  • Collaborating closely with sourcing to plan global fibre supply
  • Executing international development projects related to products, processes, and fibre technologies
  • Working in close cooperation with mills and corporate operations on new refiner technology investments and their implementation
  • Developing new fibre treatments or qualities for tissue products in collaboration with external research partners
  • Monitoring intellectual property rights and following up on relevant patents within your area of responsibility
  • Keeping up with market trends and technological developments
  • Contributing to strategic planning and providing background information for assortment development
  • Collaborating with the sustainability team on life cycle assessments
  • Generating ideas for new, innovative products or product concepts based on customer needs

  • A degree in papermaking, engineering, wood science and technology, or a related technical field
  • Experience working in paper mills, particularly with refining processes and paper machines
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and tools (e.g. Six Sigma)
  • A proven track record in leading development projects, preferably in an international environment
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with fluency in English
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization
  • Willingness to travel across Europe as part of your role
