Job-ID: MER0003UXK
Mercedes-Benz AG is a pioneer in the automotive industry that continuously strives for technological breakthroughs. At our Sindelfingen location, our Future Digital Engineering department focuses on developing and optimizing structural components using advanced calculation methods. In our international team, we work at the interface of research and innovation to increase the performance of our vehicles through lightweight construction concepts and efficient structural solutions.
Our work centers on the application of the finite element method (FEM) for detailed structural analyses. We perform both linear and nonlinear simulations, covering a wide range of load scenarios, from static load cases to complex dynamic events.
Following the internship, you will have the opportunity to continue your practical experience by deepening your scientific knowledge in the form of a thesis (bachelor's/master's thesis). This offers you the opportunity to combine your theoretical knowledge with practical application and gain a deeper understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of automotive development.
Your tasks:
- Familiarization with existing FE models and their modification to improve model quality
- Development of scripts for evaluating FE calculations using Python or MATLAB
- Active participation in the execution of FE calculations, which may include both quasi-static and dynamic analyses
- Opportunity to expand your expertise by gaining insights into related areas and participating in interdisciplinary projects
What we offer:
- Practical experience: insights into the latest developments in the field of automotive engineering and the opportunity to participate in real-world projects that have a direct impact on the future of mobility
- Innovative work environment: work in an international team that values innovation and continuous improvement, and access to state-of-the-art technologies and tools
- Thesis: option to continue the projects started during the internship in a thesis, with the opportunity to apply and deepen theoretical knowledge in a practical setting
- Company culture: a dynamic and supportive work environment that values diversity and encourages creative solutions
The activity can begin in February 2026.
- Studies in the field of mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, civil engineering, automotive engineering, simulation technology, mathematics, or a comparable field of study (a bachelor's degree is desirable but not essential)
- Very good language skills in German and English
- Sound IT skills, especially in the use of FE preprocessors, FE solvers, FE postprocessors, and programming skills, as well as confident use of MS Office
- Good knowledge of mechanics and the finite element method, as well as initial experience in numerical simulation with applications such as LS-DYNA, Optistruct, Pam-Crash, or Abaqus
- Initiative, teamwork, enthusiasm, and a structured, independent, and analytical approach to work
