Role Overview:

Responsible for General Legal matters with a focus on our German manufacturing sites, including E&C and Privacy affairs in close cooperation with the respective department and other areas as designated.

Executive Summary:

We are looking for a lawyer / senior associate with very good English, trained at a reputable law firm / company, if possible, with bar exam and life science experience.

The Elanco Assistant General Counsel DACH Manufacturing / General Legal must be able to work independently, collaborate comfortably and effectively in global, cross-functional environment.


Day-to-Day responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing strategic and operational legal support regarding broad range of legal affairs, including commercial contracts, anti-trust and competition law questions, corporate housekeeping, general legal questions from various areas of law.
  • Ethics and compliance, data privacy and litigation in close cooperation with the respective internal department.
  • Advise on the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of shareholders, managing directors, members of executive boards or supervisory boards and other committee members in fulfilling their legal obligations.
  • Serving on relevant Affiliate's Core Lead Team.
  • Monitoring and supervising external counsels and legal spend.
  • Supporting IP by collaboration with IP legal team.
  • Supporting Regulatory by collaborating with Regulatory legal team.
  • Supporting Procurement by collaborating with Procurement legal team.
  • Developing training plans and providing legal training to staff.
  • Other tasks as designated by supervisor to support Elanco's business in central European cluster.

Required skills and experience

Must have:

  • At least eight years of experience as in-house counsel or a lawyer in an internationally respected law firm (2nd state examination in law).
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English.
  • Sound business acumen and commercial awareness and practically oriented, ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and make confident decisions.
  • Strong collaboration skills with individuals from various areas, seniority levels, nationalities and cultures.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic advice to leadership, influence decision-making, and handle challenges effectively.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, clear thinker, quick learner.
  • Strong team player with a proactive attitude.
  • Experience in leveraging external counsel to provide efficient critical legal support.
  • Experience with collaborative and outsourced business relationships.
  • Computer literacy.

Nice to have:

  • Admission to a German bar.
  • Experience in the life science, animal health industry, food industry or other consumer-oriented or regulated industries.
