Unit description

Business Guidance provides advice for strategic, operational and financial planning and forecasting. We monitor, analyse and improve performance. Business Guidance safeguards TenneT's financial health by ensuring transparency, setting (financial) targets and reporting on the achievement of those targets.
TenneT is responsible for connecting Offshore wind to the Onshore Grid and is developing state of the art Offshore Grid Connection Systems (2GW HVDC GCS, Offshore Hubs) and (Onshore) DC Interconnectors to transmit the power further inland. These are all innovative, multi-discplinary, mega-projects which drive the Energy Transition. We are looking for a Finance Project Director (m/f/d) who will contribute to this and that might be you?

The Finance Project Director (m/f/d) is involved in the delivery of HVDC stations by suppliers GE/McDermott for multiple large offshore projects in Germany. The role currently focusses on delivering the HVDC stations for the projects BalWin4 and LanWin1 during the next 5-6 years, and comprises of a multi-billion euro investment program. Together with the PD (Project Director), the FPD is jointly responsible for the results and decisions within the project, reporting to the project steering group and relevant external decision-making bodies. The FPD steps in for PD, when the PD is not available. Within projects, the Finance Project Director (m/f/d) manages the overall project with the Project Director (PD) as a team ("CEO-CFO team") with the main tasks:


  • You are responsible for balanced decision making together with Project Director, considering project interest as well as the interests of TenneT as a whole, ensuring all relevant decisions are being made with a true and fair view on the results and risks
  • You work self-reliant in achieving project goals within the boundaries of the project mandate (budget, time plan, milestones) and TenneT's processes and guidelines
  • Organizing the project team together with the team leaders is our task, with a focus on: Project control, including (liaison to) Regulatory Affairs, Project administration / accounting, through finance project accountant, Procurement (strategic and operational), Contract management, Claim management, Risk Management
  • Delivering agreed-on project results to the Project Steering Group (PSG) is your responsibility, as well as initiating and approving procurement activities, participation in contract negotiations
  • You divide the project into sub-projects and work packages and provide detailed budgeting, while coordinating all contract partners and supporting departments involved in the project
  • You ensure compliance with laws and company guidelines/policies (e.g. Code of Conduct, Power of Attorney, Corp. Inv. Manual), completeness of project documentation for regulatory audits at any point in time

  • You have a University degree or comparable qualification
  • You have gained profound experience in financial controlling, accounting and/or finance management, as well as in large construction/infrastructure projects, ideally with HVDC stations scope
  • You bring Leadership experience (professional and disciplinary) in interdisciplinary teams as well as leading over distance
  • Profound skills in contract- claims- and risk management, experience in tender and negotiation situations, as well as professional experience and know-how in project controlling and project management, including proficient knowledge of IFRS, SAP are needed
  • You are fluent in German (verbally and written), and proficient in English
  • You are able to travel regularly to project locations like the Netherland, UK, Singapore/Batam
