UPM is now looking for a Laboratory Manager Biotechnology (m/f/d) for a permanent position at our new location in Halle (Saale), Germany.

As the Laboratory Manager for our new biotechnology laboratory, you will participate in the development and structuring of the R&D division from the very beginning. You will set up the biotechnological laboratory and subsequently manage the lab, and act as an interface between other R&D teams, UPM businesses, and external partners.
In this position, you will use all your experience and know-how to:
- Lead a highly motivated laboratory team, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and organize workflows in an efficient way
- Improve existing and develop new processes in the field of industrial biotechnology
- Participate in and coordinate innovative research, as well as new product and technology development projects
- Interpret laboratory results, make conclusions and recommendations, and report the results to internal co-operation partners and colleagues
- Interact with production and business development teams
- You have a master's degree in biotechnology, biology, or a similar subject, preferably with a doctorate
- You have strong knowledge in the development of fermentation processes and DSP technologies; expertise as a project manager and biosafety officer is desirable
- You are a team player with experience in driving projects from an idea to reality while working in international teams
- You have an open mind with a creative and efficient way of working, including good problem-solving and organizing skills
- You have an entrepreneurial mindset and a positive spirit combined with excellent influencing and collaboration skills
- You have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; other languages such as German, are considered an asset
