                                The Chair of Scalable Database Systems (Professor Stefanie Scherzinger) at the University of Passau invites applications for the position of Graduate Research Assistant starting 1 January 2026. The position is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space within the research project âQuantum Computing for ErUMâ (QC4ErUM). This is a full-time position on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years in total. Your responsibilities Collaborate in a distributed research project on quantum software and data engineering Interact with researchers from computer science and physics, with a service-oriented mindset Design, develop, and evaluate research software prototypes Publish and present research results at international conferences and workshops Personal requirements Completed university degree (Masterâs) in an accredited study programme, preferably in computer science, physics, or mathematics Excellent programming skills and a solid background in software and data engineering Excellent command of English, both spoken and written Knowledge of German is advantageous but not a requirement Willingness to network and travel Ability to work independently, with a structured and research-oriented approach Desirable: Prior experience or strong interest in quantum software engineering What we offer you The opportunity to pursue a doctorate within the research project A stimulating research environment at the interface of quantum computing and data engineering Collaboration within a dynamic and interdisciplinary team Remuneration in accordance with pay grade E13 of the German public-sector collective agreement (TV-L); the salary level depends on qualifications and experience A rewarding, diverse and challenging academic position on a modern, verdant campus located on the banks of the river Inn, a few minutes' walk from the historic Old Town of Passau A great work climate in a family-friendly environment The University of Passau wishes to increase the proportion of its female staff and expressly encourages women to apply for the position.
