There is a professorship (W2) in Biology, especially Molecular Genetics and Medical Device Development

in the Natural Sciences department at the Rheinbach campus available from 01.09.2026. The contract is permanent.


  • provide courses in the area of Molecular Genetics and in Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Development of Medical Devices & In-vitro Diagnostics, of the department in German and English
  • carry out research and development projects, source and manage third-party-funded projects and participate in science transfer
  • support domestic, international and interdisciplinary collaboration with academic, business and societal institutions
  • actively engage in the university-s system of academic autonomy
  • contribute to implementing the University Development Plan, in particular with regard to sustainability targets
  • develop applied and internationally oriented teaching modules in the Bachelor's and Master's programs and are willing to teach in basic biology subjects
  • build a network with companies and agencies for engagement in the areas of education, research and development
  • actively participate in the interdisciplinary university's institutes.

  • meet the employment requirements set out in Section 36 of the Nordrhein-Westfalen Hochschulgesetz
  • be prepared and able to provide courses in German and English
  • be willing to help establish and develop our study programmes and assist in introducing innovative digital teaching formats on an ongoing basis
  • be willing to take gender and diversity as well as sustainability into account as quality criteria in the areas of teaching, research and knowledge transfer
  • have several years of practical experience in the development and approval of Medical Devices or In-vitro Diagnostics in industry or relevant agencies
  • have profound knowledge and skills in the theory and practice of molecular genetics
  • demonstrate didactic talent

In addition, experience in teaching at a university or comparable institution, experience in developing new teaching concepts and content, and experience in supervising bachelor-s and master-s students is desirable. Previous experience in acquiring third-party funding for research and development projects and a good network within the German and international research community is an advantage. You have strong communication skills and are willing to collaborate across disciplines.
