XXVIII Roma International Piano Competition – Associazione Culturale Fryderyk Chopin

XXVIII Roma International Piano Competition October 23rd – November 5th, 2018

Deadline for applications: September 24th, 2018

Many years have gone by since, in 1989, the newborn Association “Chopin” decided to give life to a new activity aimed at young people: it was a National piano competition which had great success since its very beginning. The following year the contest for pianists had already become an International event.

With time, the competition has reached higher and higher goals which have been crowned, in 1996, by the granting of the High Patronage of the President of Italian Republic by the Italian Head of State H.E. Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, and which was renewed every year by his successor, President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. Today, H.E. President Giorgio Napolitano bestows a personalized bronze plate to the winner.

All of the top and most important Italian Institutions and local administrative authorities keep on sponsoring the event by granting their own representative prizes. Among them, the Presidents of the Italian Senate and Chamber of Deputies donate their own medals to the second and third place winners of the “Chopin” Prize.

This shows the significant artistic role and the support given to the 3000 young pianists coming from 70 countries of the five continents of the world, who have participated in the contest and who have placed some of their dreams and their hopes in this experience. This also represents the consideration given to the “Roma” Competition, in consideration of the doubtless reliability and fairness of evaluation, as well as the relevance of its prizes which so many young artists have deemed to represent an important stage in the course of their formation process. For this reason, they have been willing to face economic troubles and other types of efforts.

The judging Committees are formed by eminent representatives of the concert, teaching, and press fields coming from Italy and abroad.

Goals:

1. to pursue cultural and professional interests of young artists, with the aim of putting them in the best conditions to cope with the difficult entry into the job world, having already earned a deeper cultural knowledge as well as practical experience;

2. support to worthy and needy young artists through the culture of music;

3. to make the great audience acquainted with contemporary music, through the establishment of special prizes dedicated to the best performers of works written by Italian composers.
