We are seeking for a mechanical engineer with strong background in the design of opto-mechanics, laser systems, and/or vacuum systems. One of the main tasks will be the development of novel mechanical hardware for our high-performance laser systems and the future plasma injector, including scientific optical setups, laser packaging and the design of vacuum systems for our laser-plasma electron sources. In addition, the candidate has to coordinate manufacturing with internal and external workshops and has to represent his designs for the project in meetings with our partners.   • Design of mechanical assemblies using CAD
  • Design and development of optical setups, lasers, in-vacuum components and vacuum chambers
  • Technical coordination with internal and external workshops
  • Maintenance and documentation of large scale facility CAD models
  • Documentation and assembly instructions
  • Hands-on testing of prototypes and installation of final assemblies

  • Successfully completed university degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronic, technical physics or a related field or equivalent qualification
  • Experience in the design of vacuum chambers and motorized in-vacuum setups
  • Basic understanding of optical setups, preferably in the context of a laser engineering
  • Excellent skills in common CAD engineering software (NX, Inventor, Autocad, or similar)
  • Excellent communication skills in English and basic level technical German to communicate with internal technical groups
