R&D Mechanical Designer (m/f/d)

We are ac­tive­ly seek­ing a skilled and high­ly mo­ti­vat­ed R&D Me­chan­i­cal De­sign­er to join our dy­nam­ic team. As an in­te­gral mem­ber of our R&D Team, you will be re­spon­si­ble for the con­cept, de­sign and ver­i­fi­ca­tion of new hard­ware in the area of pho­ton­ics mi­cro as­sem­bly & test­ing ma­chines. We serve in­ter­na­tion­al cli­ents across di­verse sec­tors, and we com­bine cut­ting-edge en­gi­neer­ing with hands-on im­ple­men­ta­tion and glob­al col­lab­o­ra­tion.

  • De­sign and en­gi­neer cus­tom mod­ules, com­po­nents, as­sem­blies, or com­plete sys­tems for pho­ton­ics mi­cro as­sem­bly and test­ing.
  • De­vel­op, im­prove, and op­ti­mize ex­ist­ing sys­tems with re­spect to per­for­mance, man­u­fac­tur­a­bil­i­ty, re­li­a­bil­i­ty, and cost.
  • Per­form me­chan­i­cal sys­tems siz­ing, ma­te­ri­al, tol­er­ance, and man­u­fac­tur­ing pro­cess se­lec­tion.
  • Con­duct cre­a­tive brain­storm­ing ses­sions and de­vel­op in­no­va­tive de­sign so­lu­tions for tech­ni­cal chal­lenges that have not yet been solved
  • Use of me­chan­i­cal and ther­mal sim­u­la­tions to an­a­lyze the be­hav­ior and op­ti­mize the de­sign.
  • Pro­duce 2D and 3D CAD mod­els, de­tailed draw­ings, parts lists (BOMs), and full doc­u­men­ta­tion.
  • Sup­port ma­chine in­stal­la­tion, com­mis­sion­ing, and fi­nal ac­cep­tance test­ing.
  • Par­tic­i­pate in proj­ect meet­ings with in­ter­nal teams and in­ter­na­tion­al cli­ents; com­mu­ni­cate de­sign prog­ress and de­sign de­ci­sions.
  • Work close­ly with cross-func­tion­al teams: op­er­a­tion­al de­sign, sys­tems en­gi­neer­ing, au­to­ma­tion, elec­tri­cal, pro­duc­tion, and lo­gis­tics.

  • De­gree in Me­cha­ni­cal En­gi­nee­ring, Me­cha­tro­nics or a re­la­ted field
  • 3–5 years of ex­pe­ri­ence in me­cha­ni­cal de­sign, ide­al­ly in spe­cial ma­chine con­struc­tion, op­tics or pre­ci­sion en­gi­nee­ring
  • Strong skills in CAD soft­ware (e.g. So­lid­Works or On­Shape) and a good un­der­stan­ding of ma­nu­fac­tu­ring me­thods, ma­te­ri­als and to­le­ran­ces
  • Ex­pe­ri­ence with me­cha­ni­cal/ther­mal si­mu­la­tions and fa­mi­lia­ri­ty with PDM/PLM sys­tems
  • Hands-on men­ta­li­ty and strong pro­blem-sol­ving skills
  • In­de­pen­dent, de­tail-ori­en­ted and goal-dri­ven wor­king style
  • Strong com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills in Eng­lish (B2+) and Ger­man, with the abi­li­ty to work ef­fec­ti­ve­ly in in­ter­na­tio­nal pro­ject set­tings
  • Fle­xi­ble and re­si­li­ent, thri­ving in a dy­na­mic R&D en­vi­ron­ment
