suena energy is a green tech startup specializing in algorithmic energy trading for energy storage systems and renewables.
Our vision: a world where clean energy is used reliably, economically, and intelligently. Our AI-powered software maximizes the revenues of large-scale energy storage and renewable assets on European short-term power markets—while minimizing risk.
We're a team of 38 people, combining a warm, supportive team culture with true startup drive. Following our successful Series A, we're now building a dedicated platform integration team from scratch - relieving our modeling and data science teams from operational bottlenecks. As one of the first Senior Engineers (f/m/x), you'll have real ownership, direct impact, and the chance to shape our technical standards and team culture.

- Tech Stack: Python (Django/FastAPI), SQL & NoSQL (PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, DynamoDB, Redis), data lakes/warehouses, Celery, Docker, AWS, GitLab CI/CD, Sentry, Grafana
- Your Focus: Data modelling, database architecture, time-series data, ETL pipelines, performance, scalability, data integration improvements, automations, legacy improvements
- Team: Newly formed platform squad with two Senior Engineers (one API, one Data/DB), one Junior Engineer, and a Modelling expert transitioning from the Modelling team, direct CTO access, collaborative culture, async-friendly, regular pair programming

- Must-haves: 5+ years backend, hands-on with SQL & NoSQL databases, experience with data management tools (data lakes/warehouses), ETL/data pipelines, performance tuning for large datasets, cloud deployment
- Dealbreakers: No cloud/database experience, no broader data stack, no coding experience, desire to work fully solo
- Design, optimize, and maintain high-performance databases, data pipelines, and APIs for suena's energy trading and analytics platform.
- Model complex time-series data, enable robust integrations with modelling and data science teams, and ensure data reliability and scalability.
- Drive automations to streamline data flows and system processes across the platform.
- Build solutions for both greenfield and legacy systems - refactor, tune, and scale our backend to support new market and trading initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with backend, modelling, and product teams to deliver seamless data flows and high-quality analytics in production.
- Focus on data integrity, security, and system availability as the platform grows.
- 5+ years' experience in backend development, deep expertise in SQL & NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, DynamoDB, MongoDB), and complex, data-driven systems (e.g. energy, finance, IoT, trading).
- Proven experience designing and scaling databases, optimizing performance, and building reliable ETL/data pipelines in cloud environments (AWS preferred).
- Hands-on with Python (Django/FastAPI), DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, async workflows (Celery, Redis), and modern testing/monitoring setups.
- Security-first and data-driven mindset, comfortable with both greenfield engineering and legacy code/data refactoring.
- Excellent communication skills in English (B2/C1); able to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
