The EMEA Director of Environmental, Health & Safety will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for the design, implementation and maintenance of EHS systems, programs and initiatives to support the division's conformance with applicable EHS legal and other requirements and to minimize EHS legal risks and liabilities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain the division's EHS policy, standards and guidance documents, including management of an internal EHS SharePoint site that communicates this information to the global team.
• Analyze EHS legal obligations and risks and develop initiatives and action plans to address those obligations and risks.
• Oversee internal EHS incident reporting system and support follow-up root cause investigation, development of corrective and preventive action plans and communication of lessons learned.
• Organize and present EHS conferences, workshops and web-based training for plant EHS managers worldwide.
• Develop and manage an ongoing EHS audit program for all manufacturing locations.
• Identify, track and report leading and lagging EHS metrics
• Manage site investigation and remediation projects, including management of environmental consultants and outside legal counsel, and negotiations with governmental agencies.
• Manage EHS due diligence for acquisition and divestiture of businesses and properties and provide input and recommendations during negotiating and finalizing purchase agreements.
• Prepare and submit the annual CDP report providing information on the company's energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and water use initiatives.
• Assist legal team to respond to US EPA CERCLA 104(e) requests for information and similar requests for information from state environmental agencies.
• Provide support to finance and legal teams when obtaining bank financing.
• Work in collaboration with the company purchasing, R&D, engineering teams and operations to support management systems for restricted substances and chemicals (such as substances subject to REACH and RoHS).
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Minimum of a B.S. degree in Occupational Health Safety, Industrial Hygiene, environmental sciences, engineering or another relevant field desired.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years EHS experience, including at least 5 years EHS management of multiple, regional or global manufacturing operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong knowledge of environmental, health and safety legal requirements
• Demonstrated technical proficiency and ability to manage complex environmental site investigation and remediation projects
• Extensive background in hazard identification, risk assessment, accident investigation and development of corrective actions / risk reduction measures
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proven facilitation skills including the ability to influence others
• Fluent computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Ability to travel as needed up to 50%, including international travel
• Experience in the automotive industry a plus
