PhD position (f/m/d)
part time, 25,025 hours per week, limited to three years
The University Medical Center Göttingen – Department of Neurology and the Institute for Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis Research are looking for a PhD Student (f/m/d).
The topic of the PhD thesis is in the field of Parkinson-s disease. This disease is characterized by the aggregation of a-synuclein, leading to progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons. Evidence points towards immune processes contributing to the pathophysiology. The focus of the PhD project on offer is to dissect these immunological processes and to investigate their functional significance for progressive neurodegeneration. This PhD is a translational project in the cross-sectional field of Neuroimmunology and Neurodegeneration involving the Departments of Neurology and Neuroimmunology of the University Medical Center Göttingen. We offer a fully funded PhD position for a highly motivated candidate with a background in Immunology/Molecular Biology/Neuroscience.
Your tasks
Your tasks
- Conduct original research on the project, including experimental design, data collection and analysis, in both independent and collaborative manner
- Characterize blood samples from both patients and controls
- Apply research techniques in the field of Immunology and Neuroscience such as cell culture, flow cytometry, immunoassays, quantitative PCR and microscopy
- Investigate the potential use of experimental models of Parkinson's disease
- Participate in different method and soft-skill courses offered by the PhD programs of the University
- Present your progress in regular lab meetings, thesis advisory committee meetings, scientific meetings and research conferences
- Supervise and support bachelor's and master's students, thereby acquiring teaching and mentoring skills
Your qualifications

- Master-s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Natural Sciences, or a related field
- Strong interest and profound scientific background in Immunology/Molecular Biology/Neuroscience
- Excellent communication skills in English and ability to work in a team
