The British Embassy in Berlin and the British Consulate-General in Munich, are a large overseas mission in the FCDO (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. We are looking for a Senior Manager Technology Investments to support key commercial opportunities in the Tech Sector.

As the selected candidate you will be based at the British Consulate-General in Munich.

Main purpose of job:

This position is pivotal in shaping the UK-Germany bilateral relationship in the technology sector, acting as a strategic bridge between both countries' tech ecosystems.

Working with the Team Lead, this role will offer a mix of project management, stakeholder management in both public and private sectors, research and analysis of industry trends, and sourcing investment of leading German tech companies in the UK.

You will develop and manage a strong pipeline of investment projects, map new opportunities, and facilitate meetings for senior diplomats and ministers. You will also advise colleagues in London on commercial trends and policy developments.

  • Secure Strategic Investments: Develop and present tailored investment proposals to German tech companies, particularly in high-growth areas such as AI, Climate Tech, and Cyber Security.
  • Engage with Senior Stakeholders: Represent the UK Government in discussions with senior executives and C-level decision-makers in the German tech sector.
  • Promote the UK Tech Ecosystem: Act as an ambassador for the UK's technology strengths, highlighting opportunities for German companies to invest and collaborate.
  • Advise on Strategic Commercial Projects: Provide expert input on commercial initiatives and support senior diplomats and visiting UK officials with sector-specific insights.
  • Monitor sector trends and regulatory developments: Monitor and analyse sector trends, investment pipelines, and regulatory developments relevant to UK and German commercial interests
  • Contribute to UK-Germany tech policy discussions: Ensure business insights inform UK-Germany policy discussions and DBT strategy
  • Shape overall technology sector engagement strategy: Contribute to performance reporting, briefings, and provide strategic advice to colleagues on technology sector engagement

  • Full professional proficiency in German and English (written and spoken, minimum of C2 level for CEFR* framework);
  • University degree;
  • Minimum of 3 years experience working in or with the tech sector;
  • Minimum of 3 years of Commercial experience in Consulting, Business Development or Relationship Management;
  • Strong analytical and research skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills to be credible with the most senior business leaders;
  • Self-Starter – ability to work well on own initiative;
  • Ability to work under pressure and juggle multiple priorities effectively.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Experience in tech policy
  • Experience working for or with government;
  • Experience working for an international organisation;
  • Experience preparing high-level business and/or government delegation visits;
  • Knowledge of the UK business and policy environment;
  • Creative thinking;
  • Strong intercultural skills;
  • Very good IT and data analysis skills, well-versed in MS Excel, PowerPoint.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position, of 37.5 hours per week for 2 year contract with the possibility of a permanent contract subject to performance and funding. Salary € 67,080.00 rising to a maximum of approx. €75,351.00 gross per annum after a qualifying period in addition to performance related pay (salary is not negotiable) after successful probationary period and per the T&Cs.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background check and security clearance. The successful candidates must have pre-existing work authorisation in Germany in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local German employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Germany and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Working patterns: Working hours- 37.5 hours per week
This is a fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension subject to performance and funding.
Working pattern will be in line with British Embassy's internal policies. In order to carry out their work, the post-holder may be required to work outside the normal working hours from time to time.
