We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Claims Specialist (m/w/d) to join our Freight Forwarding Admin team. In this role, you will manage and resolve freight claims across ocean, air, and road shipments, ensuring timely investigation, accurate documentation, and fair settlements. You will act as a key liaison between clients, carriers, insurers, and internal departments to maintain service standards, minimize financial loss, and ensure compliance with legal and contractual obligations. This position may also involve temporarily handling collections in case of capacity gaps.
Key Responsibilities:
Investigate and process freight claims (loss, damage, shortage, delay) across multiple transport modes.
Gather and review supporting documentation (bills of lading, delivery receipts, photographs, insurance policies, invoices).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the internal claims management system.
Liaise with carriers, insurers, and customers to resolve claims efficiently.
Provide regular claim status updates to clients and internal teams.
Collaborate with Operations, Customer Service, and Legal to address and mitigate claim issues.
Prepare claims reports and analyses for management, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, carrier terms, and internal policies.
Your profile
Bachelor's degree preferred (Forwarding agent / clerk, Insurance clerk, or equivalent work experience in logistics, supply chain, or related field).
Minimum 2 years' experience in freight forwarding, logistics, or claims handling.
Strong knowledge of Incoterms, international shipping, cargo insurance, and transportation documentation (AWB, B/L, POD).
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Customer-focused mindset with strong service orientation.
Experience with international regulations (e.g., CMR, IATA, Hague-Visby Rules) is a plus.
Excellent command of written and spoken German and English; knowledge of Spanish and/or French is advantageous.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and freight management systems (e.g., Cargowise, SAP).
Relevant logistics, freight forwarding, or insurance certifications are a plus.
