Jobbeschreibung
GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung” in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. Currently, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity working in this international environment in a team committed to conduct excellent science every day.
The “Superconducting Magnets & Testing” (SCM) department is looking for a candidate to join its “Magnet Electrical Systems” (SCM-MES) group as an
Engineer “Electrical Systems” (all genders)
Reference: 25.88-6351
for safe operation of superconducting FAIR components. As part of the FAIR project, corresponding electronic equipment has to be procured, qualified and configured for application in the future accelerator facility. In addition, your hands-on participation in installation and commissioning will be a significant contribution to the successful launch of FAIR.
- Provisioning of components and infrastructure for the magnet protection system of the FAIR facility as well as our magnet test benches. This includes project planning and potentially predevelopment, procurement, configuration as well as site acceptance tests.
- System expert and contact person for integration of magnet protection equipment into the accelerator facility as well as into our magnet test benches.
- Supervision, test and adaptation of hard- and software of already existing devices as well as our test bench for magnet protection electronics.
- Planning and conceptual design of the “Next-Gen Magnet Protection Electronics” for FAIR as well as scenarios for replacing existing systems.
- Verification of electrical integrity at superconducting FAIR modules as well as troubleshooting support.
- Operation, guidance and control of electrical work as an electrically qualified person.
- Degree in electrical engineering (M.Sc./M.Eng.) or comparable qualification and ideally work experience in the field of superconducting components protection. A doctorate would be an asset.
- Profound knowledge in electrical measurement, sensor technology, measurement data acquisition as well as installation and commissioning of associated equipment.
- Proficiency in data transmission via Ethernet as well as data processing and data synchronization within linked systems.
- Hands-on experience in merging electronic equipment into large-scale electrical systems would be a plus.
- Expertise in design, simulation, test and production of electronic devices using established simulation tools and EDA software. This includes a broad knowledge of analogue/digital circuitry and electronic components as well as know-how in EMC-compatible system assembly.
- Programming skills with Python and C/C++.
- Experience in implementation of FPGA-based electronics (preferably with ALTERA Cyclone) including the associated software design environment would be an asset.
- Familiarity with MS-Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS-Office applications.
- Fluent in spoken and written English, ideally a competent German ability.
- Independent cooperative way of working, social skills, proactivity, sense of responsibility and team spirit.
