IEA is an independent, nonprofit research organization. We conduct international and national large-scale comparative studies of educational achievement and other aspects of education with the aim of researching, understanding, and improving education worldwide. At IEA Hamburg, over one hundred and fifty employees are involved in managing the different tasks of a study ranging from sampling to data analysis. Our experts also provide a wide array of services related to international and national surveys and assessments.
To join our Sampling Unit we have an immediate opening for a full-time (40 hrs./week)
Research Analyst / Sampling Statistician (f/m/d)
The Sampling Unit at IEA Hamburg develops and implements sample designs for international and national educational studies. This includes sample selection, computation of sampling weights, and preparing data sets for variance estimation. Strict adherence to state-of-the-art methods in sampling provides a foundation for high-quality study outcomes.
- Participation in the development and implementation of international educational surveys
- Preparation of school databases for national surveys
- Preparation and selection of samples (school, class, and student samples) for these surveys
- Organization and documentation of the sampling operations
- Communication with researchers from the participating countries
- Weighting of study data and preparation for estimation of sampling variance
- Master's degree in Statistics, Sociology or a related field – graduates welcome!
- Deep understanding of the basic concepts of probability theory and statistics
- First experience in the field of survey design and quantitative data analysis
- Skills in programming syntax-based statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R)
- Excellent command of English and strong communication skills; German language skills beneficial
- Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
- First experience in project and teamwork
- Independent, proactive, and organized approach to work
We expect you to be available to work in our offices in Hamburg, Germany, and to be available to travel abroad for missions of short duration (usually about one week). The contract will be limited to an initial period of two years, but we are interested in a long-term working relationship. In principle, there is the possibility of part-time employment.
