Job-ID: MER0003O5R
In the body in white production engineering, we are responsible for the design, construction and ramp-up of our production lines within the stamp shop, body shop and paint shop. This involves the integration of new vehicles from R&D and constraints from our factories. In current times, this involves planning with a high degree of uncertainty, modelling complex scenarios and handling various constraints and non-functional requirements.
To ease this process, our aim is to develop a system on how to handle those constraints and non-functional requirements in an efficient manner and how to improve existing AI technologies by adding semantics.
Your thesis will evolve around enhancing those generic AI capabilities with domain-specific knowledge to increase precision and user interaction efficiency.
- Your project is divided into various steps that depend on each other and build on each other. This includes:
- Identification of relevant technologies in the context of AI
- Identification of the associated design decisions in the production planning process that trigger constraints and requirements
- Generating or applying semantic technology stacks on the given requirement and constraint sets
- Development and deployment of methodologies to describe machine-readible NFRs
- Development of assisted or automated check routines (e.g., Is constraint X valid for product part Y in the context of project Z?)
- Subsequent implementation and deployment within a UI or a digital twin
You will build on an existing and promising base from previous research and deeply interact with an ongoing doctorate project. However, you should show the greatest possible initiative and recognize and prepare relevant decisions accordingly. Challenging a status quo and innovating is encouraged.
The final thesis selection is made in close consultation with you, the university and us.
The master thesis can start from September 2025.
- Studies in the field of IT, Computer science, Mechatronics, or a comparable field of study with a focus on IT; if you are applying as an engineer, please show distinctive experience in the IT domain
- LLM experience, semantic mapping, ontologies, knowledge graphs, digital twins and handling of non-functional requirements
- Proficient English skills in both spoken and written form, German language is a bonus
- Enjoyment of varied tasks, quick comprehension, independent and structured working mode, as well as team and communication skills
