European Air Transport Leipzig GmbH (EAT) is a subsidiary of DHL Group. It is an aircraft maintenance company as well as a cargo airline. The fleet of EAT Leipzig consists of 36 aircraft, including Airbus A300-600, A330-200 and Boeing 757. At present, destinations in Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East and Asia are approached. The company currently employs approximately 1200 staff at its bases at Leipzig/Halle airport and in Brussels

YOUR TASK

The Ground Safety Manager (GSM) derives their authority from, and is directly responsible to, the Director Safety Management on all matters concerning the Ground Safety Department. The GSM is responsible for:

  • Responsible for maintaining the safety reporting databases as well as a ground safety hazard register,
  • Implementing, maintaining and continuously improving the Safety Management System,
  • Identify weaknesses in Ground Handling and Cargo Operations (Airside/Restricted Commodities) and other Ground Operations areas,
  • Developing Safety Performance Indicator,
  • Responsible for Safety Publications/Newsletters,
  • Developing, maintaining Ground Safety Investigation reports and collecting, analysing and ensuring of follow-ups,
  • Investigation of accidents and incidents and suggesting corrective/preventive actions,
  • Monitoring the agreed corrective/preventive actions and their implementation with the Aviation Compliance Monitoring Department,
  • Developing and promoting of a distinctive safety culture within EAT,
  • Liaising with all departments/parties at all levels concerning all ground safety related matters,
  • Maintaining an open liaison with external bodies, such as Civil Aviation Authorities (LBA), airlines, ground handlers, DHL network, IATA, etc.,
  • Representing the company on safety matters, i.e. meetings & conferences with external national and international bodies,
  • Developing and maintaining an open, penalty free reporting culture within EAT to encourage staff to report all safety related information,
  • Coordinating risk assessments, their follow-ups and mitigation processes.


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Appropriate management experience in a comparable organization or function,
  • University degree in the field of aviation or ground operational education,
  • Broad experience in Safety Management and Ground Operations,
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Relevant operating procedures of the European Union legislation and the related regulations, requirements and procedures,
    • The operational documentation of Ground Operations, including familiarity with quality system and the management system,
    • National, European and international Legislation and regulations related to the corresponding functional area.
  • Excellent knowledge in spoken and written German and English,
  • Proficient in all Microsoft office applications,
  • Excellent management, communication and problem solving skills,
  • Strong leadership skills,
  • A strong operational and technical background,
  • A sound understanding of Ground Handling and Cargo Operations and organizational requirements for aircraft safety, compliance monitoring, ground operations and general airline operations.
