PhD Student - Nephrology (m/f/d)

wanted from 01.06.2024 at the Center for Child and Adolescent Medicine for the Nephrology Lab.

In collaboration with the research networks TheraCil and Neocyst, the Center for Child and Adolescent Medicine Heidelberg is conducting a project that focuses on the research and treatment of rare genetic diseases, in particular renal ciliopathies. The aim of the project is to improve the diagnosis and prognosis of children with renal ciliopathies and to develop therapeutic approaches that target common pathological mechanisms. This project involves work on patient-derived renal organoids to decipher molecular signatures and develop therapeutic interventions that can modify the disturbed signaling pathways and cell functions.

  • Working with human stem and progenitor cells and production of kidney organoids
  • Characterisation of organoids using cell biological methods, immunohistochemical staining, confocal microscopy
  • Genomic Analyses (i.e. RNA sequencing)
  • Pharmacological Screening Methods
  • Establishing new methods

  • Successfully completed studies in biosciences, pharmacy or related discipline
  • Interest in organoid-based model systems
  • Ideally, you already have experience in cell culture work and are proficient in standard molecular biology methods (DNA, RNA and protein purification, PCR, Western Blot, etc.)
  • Experience in bioinformatics techniques would be advantageous
  • Interest in microscope-based imaging
  • Above-average motivation, initiative, reliability and sense of responsibility
  • Very good written and spoken English (knowledge of German is an advantage)
  • Vaccination certificates according to §20 Infection Protection Act are available
