The WW Operations' Safety Team is looking for a Senior Manager of Governance and External Affairs (EU) to lead safety regulatory and compliance initiatives and stakeholder outreach in the EU and UK Region. This leader will develop and implement a comprehensive regulatory compliance and policy strategy in this Region to enable and promote safe and efficient workplace across multiple operations (e.g, Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Amazon Stores, and the Transportation Network).

Workplace health and safety subject matter expertise (SME) and knowledge of regulatory procedures are crucial as well as experience with regulators and lawmakers in the Region. This leader needs to maintain agility and flexibility to ensure programs put in place will adapt to and scale to a fast-changing environment without lowering standards and to ensure that we are always doing what is right for the safety of our employees.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive workplace health and safety regulatory compliance and policy strategy for the Region
  • Lead Regional audit strategy to quickly reduce risk and accelerate learnings across businesses and geographies
  • Develop internal workplace health and safety regulatory processes to ensure compliance with laws and policies and to remove compliance issues noted during audits and inspections
  • Monitor and advise on regulatory and policy initiatives impacting workplace safety, including emerging regulatory impacts in the Region
  • Build relationships within the Region with key stakeholders both internal and external, including regulatory, industry association, and alliance partners to promote and advocate Amazon's commitment to safety excellence

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Relevant experience in safety, compliance, and/or regulatory affairs, including experience developing and implementing safety strategies and programs in the Region and responding to regulatory investigations
  • Subject matter expertise in governmental regulations

Preferred qualifications

  • Post graduate degree in safety, law or compliance
  • Ability to lead and manage a high-performance team and prior experience with people management skills, including communication, leadership delegation, motivation, training, and performance feedback
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects, working independently and often in ambiguous environment
  • Ability to quickly earn and maintain trust
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work across the most senior levels of leadership and all levels of an organization with multiple businesses, including operations, legal, and public policy, to provide leadership and strategic planning on regulatory safety-related issues
  • Proven ability to influence the decisions of senior business leaders and stakeholders through logical reasoning, relevant data, and the presentation of alternative solutions
  • Strategic thinker who can express their conviction, while staying flexible to new ideas or better solutions
  • Ability to build effective coalitions and extensive external network (e.g., regulators, trade associations, and legal counsel)
  • Excellent analytical, legal writing, and presentation skills
