Inland Supply Trader (m/f/d)

The Inland Supply Trader is a key commercial position in our Fuels Value Chain, enabling you to shape the future of VARO Energy's growth in Germany and beyond.

The position
As our Inland Supply Trader (m/f/x) you are at the core of our Fuels Value Chain optimisation. Our team ensures we achieve the best possible netback for our refineries. Next to our own production, we also supply ourselves from the inland and global markets. With your colleagues you will be responsible for the sourcing of Mogas, Diesel and Heating Oil as well as the commercial optimization of the supply flows in Germany. Not only will you be managing your own portfolio of major counterparties, you are also responsible for parts of the overall exposure management of VARO Energy in Germany.

In continuous coordination with other colleagues, you will shape our overall Supply & Trading strategy in order to keep it aligned with our sourcing portfolio, our hedging strategy and with VARO's wider strategic interests. With the colleagues from the renewables desk, you will explore the possibilities of combining mineral oil, bio fuels and other renewable products. The position we offer has a specific focus on Germany, one of the biggest and most dynamic inland markets in Europe, and on Austria. The VARO Group has commercial activities in many other neighbouring countries, offering plenty of opportunities for further cross border optimisation. In this respect, you will be in regular contact with our teams in Rotterdam and in Baar.


  • Sourcing of product for our marketing and commercial departments to secure availability of product in line with our trading strategy
  • Commercial optimization of product flows and netbacks of our refinery
  • Manage our physical position and pricing exposure in line with the market structure
  • Negotiate and close contracts with external parties, both on spot and on term. This includes purchases and sales on bulk (e.g. barges and trains) as well as truck loadings and exchanges.
  • Leverage VARO's extensive expertise on minerals and renewables, increasing the value generation in our entire FVC
  • Manage the exposure for VARO Germany, together with our other Supply Traders, taking on a clear P&L responsibility
  • Continuously improve and drive the commercial strategy together with other Supply Traders, the Pricing & Optimisation Manager and our other commercial departments
  • Feedback local market insights into internal group-wide calls to discuss trading and exposure strategy
  • Maintain a close cross-border relationship to our colleagues in Switzerland and Netherlands

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience in the oil industry, preferably in the German market
  • Sound knowledge on the principles of exposure management, trading and hedging
  • Preferably accustomed with relevant logistic and supply operations in Germany
  • Prior experience in renewables is a pro
  • Acquaintance with the concept of fuels value chain optimisation is beneficial
