The Position

As Category Manager for Primary Market Research & Competitive Insight, you'll be on an exciting mission to shape how Boehringer Ingelheim sources and manages external partners in this critical category.


  • In your new role you will lead sourcing activities for the Primary Market Research and Competitive Insight category globally, applying strategic thinking, persuasiveness, and assertiveness to drive impactful decisions.
  • You will challenge the status quo and identify opportunities to improve sourcing strategies, convincing senior stakeholders to adopt innovative approaches.
  • As global supplier manager, you will establish and enforce a robust governance framework with our core providers, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • You will strengthen relationships with strategic external partners while continuously scanning the market for new players and solutions that align with Boehringer Ingelheim's evolving needs.
  • Furthermore, you will proactively identify and mitigate risks, while exploring innovative service models and technologies to enhance insight generation.
  • You will independently manage high volumes of sourcing requests and lead successful negotiations, ensuring contracts meet business needs and are aligned with internal stakeholders.
  • Also, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement cutting-edge sourcing methods that elevate Boehringer Ingelheim's capabilities in speed, cost efficiency, and value creation.

  • Master's degree in business administration, market research is preferred, but equivalent professional training, like a bachelor's degree, combined with several years of experience in procuring services/goods for a pharmaceutical company, ideally in global category management, will also be considered
  • Sound knowledge of applicable market intelligence and sourcing experience in the respective category area of market research or competitive intelligence and or in GxP and NTA relevant Categories
  • Understanding of demand management, market and supplier analysis, compliance management, due diligence, risk management, innovation, supplier management, contract management, negotiation techniques and other established sourcing methodologies
  • Experience in project management and a solid understanding of market research methodologies and supplier ecosystems, as well as experience in leading cross-functional teams that consist of internal and external partners
  • Legal expertise in contract law (German law of obligations preferred)
  • Proven ability to work in global, cross-functional, and intercultural teams
  • Knowledge of the German language is a plus
