Linux and HPC engineer (f/m/x)

Location: Bonn

The DZNE operates a central IT located in Bonn, which pro­vides the central net­work, server and storage infra­struc­ture, and services for theen­tire research center distri­buted across 10 sites, suppor­ting the work of scientists and administra­tion. We operate a virtualization infra­structure, with Linux and Windows servers.


  • Design, operation and continuous develop­ment of the central HPC and scientific compu­ting systems of the DZNE
  • Help design and implement NVIDIA GPU solu­tion for scientific calcu­lation
  • Participation in the planning and construc­tion of BeeGFS cluster, Slurm work­load manager and InfiniBand switches
  • Operation of the central data center and site data centers of the DZNE
  • Rack and stack of data center servers and storage hardware
  • With your experience, you will be also responsible for medium / long term pro­jects and coordi­nate external providers

  • University degree in Computer Science or rele­vant studies in a related field
  • Relevant experience in the areas of HP high per­for­mance computing systems hard­ware, GPU systems, and InfiniBand switches
  • Knowledge of the following technologies: Linux HPC, Slurm, Parallel cluster file system, HP high perfor­mance computing hard­ware compute and storage nodes
  • Willing to work in data center on physical servers, storage, switches rack and stack, cab­ling and labeling
  • Monitor, manage and prepare plan for power / cooling require­ments of data center scientific compu­ting hardware
  • Experience with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery strategies
  • High level of responsibility, initiative and ability to work in a team
  • Excellent analytical skills and atten­tion to detail of data center operation
  • Strong communications skills and collabo­rative approach
