At our Global Research & Development and Innovation department, we're not just improving cement and concrete - we're rethinking them. Our mission: to pioneer technologies that significantly reduce the CO₂ footprint of building materials and lead the industry toward true carbon neutrality.
To strengthen our Concrete & Application Development team, we're looking for a Scientist/Engineer Concrete & Application Development (f/m/d). This position is based in Leimen (near Heidelberg), Germany, and reports to the position Team Leader Concrete & Applications Development.
YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE
- Lead and manage complex, multi-year R&D projects focused on developing innovative concrete concepts and applications, in alignment with the GRDI work plan. This includes conducting feasibility studies and business case evaluations to assess technical and market potential.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including Heidelberg Materials country organizations, group functions, industrial partners, and academic institutions, to drive project success and ensure effective implementation in target markets.
- Advance core competencies and technologies by developing and optimizing concrete mix designs, creating or adapting test methods, and supporting product development and technical marketing initiatives.
- Foster innovation and knowledge sharing by identifying new R&D opportunities, contributing to group-wide knowledge management, supporting patent development, and providing training in concrete and applications technology.
- Support organizational development by mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to special projects or assignments as requested by management.
YOUR PROFILE
- University degree in civil engineering, building chemistry, materials science, or a related field; a masters or doctoral degree is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in concrete applications and/or admixture technologies, with a strong preference for hands-on expertise in addressing practical challenges in concrete production, placement, or performance - both in lab and field settings.
- Proven ability to lead R&D projects in an international environment, with strong project management capabilities, scientific writing and publishing experience, and familiarity with modern media and information technologies.
- Demonstrated creativity, curiosity, and flexibility in solving complex scientific problems; entrepreneurial mindset with strong self-management, decision-making, and risk assessment skills.
- Excellent English skills required; additional language skills, especially German, are an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills, intercultural awareness, and willingness to travel internationally. Experience working abroad is a plus.
