Job Description
The Data Science department uses statistical modeling, machine learning and optimization techniques to continuously improve business processes at NEW YORKER. We work in agile project teams on a variety of use cases, including order optimization, pricing, distribution and logistics. We are a very ambitious and international team and are proud of our high standards.
- Design and deliver complex mission-critical projects across our key business areas (e.g., pricing, supply chain, order/warehouse planning).
- Actively grow and manage a network of business contacts in order to understand business processes, how they are represented in data and the main challenges faced by the business.
- Based on your extent experience, identify potential Data Science use cases, assess their value potential and design a roadmap for their implementation.
- Get your hands dirty, i.e., end-to-end implement advanced machine learning models, contributing directly to projects and leading and guiding other Data Scientists.
- Partner with strong data engineering and software engineering teams to deploy, integrate, and maintain data products.
- Coordinate with head, team leads and other individual contributor leaders to realize impactful solutions that shape the company's data and process environment.
- Weigh in on decisions that impact other teams or the company at large and support projects and project leads in defining roadmaps, visions and directions for long-term projects.
- Provide advice if appropriate and guide the team towards the simplest possible solution to fulfill the business requirements and provide optimal net present value.
- Teach, coach and guide the team through highly insightful, comprehensive code reviews, and facilitate a knowledge-sharing culture in the department.
- Drive data science initiatives and shape the company's long-term machine learning and AI strategy.
- University degree (STEM disciplines) with 7+ years of relevant working experience
- Experience in the fashion, retail, or e-commerce industry
- Data Scientist with keen interest in software engineering or former software engineers with a proven track record of Data Science projects
- Comfortable working with and managing uncertainty and ambiguity
- Excellent knowledge of Python and relevant data science frameworks (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
- Good knowledge of SQL and the Python data engineering stack (e.g. Spark, Hadoop)
- Team skills, communication skills and hands-on mentality
- Well-organized, structured and self-driven while aligning proactively with the team
- You speak fluent German and English
