At the Optics Design Center in Jena, we have over 120 employees developing projection systems and specialized cameras for AR/VR glasses, smartphones, head-up displays, LiDAR systems, endoscopes, and many other demanding and complex applications.


· Provide technical and organizational leadership for the optics and optoelectronics design teams based in Jena.

· Collaborate with engineering and business development departments to advance our design strategy.

· Maintain and enhance individual and team competencies in current technologies and future design trends.

· Oversee and optimize the product development process, including transitioning products to production.

· Foster strong relationships within the Jabil engineering organizations, as well as externally with customers, the optics community, and global partners.

· Manage team conflicts, capacity constraints, and other challenges.

· Regularly report to the General Manager in Jena on strategy implementation.


· University degree in technical or scientific fields (Physics, Optoelectronics, Photonics, or similar) with over 10 years of professional and leadership experience

· In-depth knowledge of optical and optoelectronic system development and experience in transitioning products to manufacturing

· Proven track record in leading large design teams within the optics industry

· Ideally, experience with matrix structures and virtual team communication

· Strong coaching and communication skills

· Flexible, decisive, empathetic, resilient, and pragmatic personality

· Fluent in English, both written and spoken

· Willingness to travel globally (10-15%)
