We are looking for the following person for the IT department as soon as possible:
Research Assistant (all genders) as member of the Data-Storage Group

- Operation, monitoring and further development of high-performance storage solutions for HPC environments based on Lustre and/or Ceph
- Support of data archiving with IBM Storage Protect (TSM) including automation, data integrity and performance optimization
- Operation and monitoring of the Infiniband network infrastructure as a central component of the HPC backbone
- Development, maintenance and operation of the monitoring infrastructure with Prometheus, Grafana and InfluxDB
- Creation of dashboards and alerting systems for monitoring storage and network systems
- Analysis of system key figures for early detection of bottlenecks and error states.
- General tasks in Linux system administration (RHEL/CentOS/Rocky Linux), including automation with Ansible, package management, system updates and error analysis
- Publish open-source software solutions and research contributions on relevant scientific repositories.
- Successfully completed studies (Master, Diploma) in computer science, physics or a comparable course of study
- Experience in the operation and administration of distributed file systems such as Lustre and/or Ceph
- Knowledge of data archiving and backup systems, ideally IBM Storge Protect (TSM).
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and InfluxDB and a good understanding of performance metrics in storage and network systems
- Good knowledge of Linux system administration (preferably RHEL/CentOS/Rocky Linux)
- Basic knowledge of Infiniband networking and hands-on experience in troubleshooting and documentation
- Experience with automation tools such as Ansible or CHEF and basic knowledge of scripting (e.g. Bash, Python)
- Independent and structured way of working and ability to work in a team in the HPC environment
- Good written and spoken German and English.
The role combines strong software engineering expertise with scientific computing, offering the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to research infrastructure while working with cutting-edge technologies.
Your working style is structured and independent. The use of documentation tools during your work is an efficient support for you. You have strong communication skills, a confident manner, as well as a high level of methodological and social competence, you are ready to acquire missing knowledge independently. The ability to work in a team across groups and a solution-oriented working style are required.

The position is initially limited to 2 years. The salary is based on the collective agreement TVöD (Bund) applicable at GSI. Home office is partly possible by mutual agreement.
