The roughly 2.600 employees assigned to the Terminal & Infrastructure segment deal with terminal-related activities and provide complementary logistics services at selected locations.
Within the Investment & Participation Controlling team of Hapag-Lloyd AG, you will be responsible for the professional leadership of the investment controlling for our Liner Shipping segment. This includes strategic investments in ships, containers, and other assets. In this position, you will work closely with the operational departments and contribute to strategic decisions from an investment perspective. By creating and sparring on business cases as well as preparing tailored decision-making materials, you will make a significant contribution to the optimal capital allocation of Hapag-Lloyd AG. Together with the team, you will independently manage the evaluation, implementation, and tracking of investment projects.
- Professional responsibility for the investment process of the Liner Shipping segment (ships, containers, modifications, office) of Hapag-Lloyd AG.
- Coordination of investment planning (budgets & forecasts), reporting, and the creation of special analyses for strategic investments.
- Commercial assessment of investment projects and creation of decision-making materials for the Executive Board – particularly concerning ship investments (newbuildings, modification of the existing fleet within the Fleet Upgrade Program, charter ships).
- Ensuring holistic investment and cost controlling of the charter fleet (short-, medium-, and long-term charter agreements as well as other costs related to the charter agreements).
- Planning and actual-plan deviation analysis of capital costs (according to IAS 16 and IFRS 16) of strategic investment objects.
- Implementation of new process interfaces for investment-related issues with the operational departments (including Fleet, Chartering, Network, Container Steering, Sustainability) as well as cross-functional collaboration with our regions and relevant finance departments (e.g., Accounting, Treasury & Finance).
- Participation and independent implementation of strategic projects with financial relevance in cross-functional collaboration.
- Further development of BI dashboards and advancement of KPI frameworks for controlling the investment portfolio.
- Completed university degree, e.g., in the fields of economics, logistics, finance, engineering, natural sciences, or a comparable field of study – or equivalent training.
- Several years of relevant professional experience in investment controlling/ (operational) controlling or financial analyses within consulting projects. Prior experience in the shipping industry is a further advantage.
- (Initial) experience in personnel leadership and/or project responsibility.
- Independent and goal-oriented way of working with a high level of commitment and flexibility.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills as well as a confident manner in interaction with senior management.
- Basic understanding of ship operating costs, CAPEX, and leasing according to IFRS is a further advantage.
- Quick comprehension and structured approach to complex problems, supported by a high affinity for numbers and data.
- Very good, practically proven English skills in spoken and written language.
- Professional handling of MS Office tools and experience with analytics and BI software, e.g., Qlik, Power BI, Tableau.
