One of several philanthropic initiatives by Josh Gibson, this award will support one student per year with $1,000, which he/she will be able to use towards his/her college expenses.

Josh Gibson, M.D. is the VP of Digital Transformations and Director of People Operations and Innovation Strategy at San Francisco-based Pilot 44 LLC, a technology consulting firm that provides branding, social media and other internet marketing services. In his role there, Josh drives path-breaking innovations via digital transformation and automation, primarily in the medical and consumer-oriented sectors. Josh also has over 20 years of experience in the field of psychiatry. He has worked extensively with Quartet Health, a mental health startup, and has experience in coaching and consulting individuals and clients on how to lead emotionally healthier lives through changes at the individual and organizational level.

Qualifications and Awards

Josh Gibson received the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Foundation Award for humanism in medicine and clinical excellence during his academic career at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he earned his medical degree. He then completedhisResidency in Psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where he won the Alexander Simon Award for Teaching. His insights and leadership skills also earned him the American Medical Association Foundation Leadership Award and a nomination for a fellowship to serve at the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP), a renowned think-tank dedicated to shaping psychiatric thinking, public programs and clinical practice in mental health. Over the next decade, John served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF, supervising and teaching residents and conducting clinical and educational activities focused on the neurobiology of relationships.

Never Resting on His Laurels

A Man of Many Talents

Josh Gibson MD was appointed chairman of the GAP’s Committee on Work and Organizations. In this capacity, he spearheaded editorial and writing initiatives for Careers, groundbreaking work in career guidance for young adults. He also authored the Relationship Primer for the Workplace, included as part of the anthological work, “Psychiatry of Workplace Dysfunction: Tools for Mental Health Professionals, Managers, and Employees.” 

In his time as an English major at Cornell University, Josh Gibson MD received the Arthur Lynn Andrews award for fiction writing. Several top executives in corporate America today have credited Josh Gibson MD for helping them understand workplace dynamics and building effective high-performing teams. He has also served as a senior consultant at Andersen Consulting, the company that has now become Accenture. There he drove innovation in organizational behavior, logistics, delivery, process management, and education design. His clients include several Fortune 500 companies across the healthcare, financial services, and retail industries. His time working with the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford is widely considered the spark for his interest in the medical field.

Beyond The Credentials

Josh Gibson MD now resides in San Rafael, California. He is a family man and is always looking to spend more time with his doting wife and two wonderful children. He is a music buff, and is athletically inclined, enjoying running and basketball. He is also a proficient writer, currently working hard at a poetry collection as well as a full-length novel.
