HISTORY OF THE ACADEMY OF NURSING EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE TRAINING DATES BACK TO 1995 WHEN THE UNIVERSITY OF ZULULAND SENATE AND COUNCIL APPROVED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PROGRAMME CALLED OPEN LEARNING ACADEMY OF NURSING INSTITUTE
These programmes got approval by the South African nursing council with the first group completing in 1998.
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE WAS ;
TO PROVIDE PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE STUDENT SO THAT ,ON COMPETION OF THE COURSE SHE / HE ;
- Shows respect for the dignity and uniqueness of man in his social, cultural and religious context ,
- .Is skilled in diagnosing man ,s health problem,the planning for implementing of therapeutic action and nursing care for the individual at any point .
- . Is able to maintain the ethical and moral codes of the profession and practice within the prescriptions of the relevant laws
- . Is able to collaborate harmoniously within the nursing and multidisciplinary team .
- .Is able to delineate personal practice according to the personal knowledge and skills .
- . Displays an enquiring and scientific approach to the problems of practice and is prepared to initiate and -/ or accept change.
- . Is able to apply the principles of management in a nursing unit.
- . Is able to provide clinical teaching within the nursing unit
- . Has the cognitive , psychomotor and effective skills for continuing education.
